seatbelt harness fixing eye bolts
matswesty - 15/1/11 at 08:21 PM

Hi all, hope you can help,I am building a westfield and have added some extra box section under the seat area but failed to notice that i now cannot put the eye bolts into place for the harnesses,I was thinking of drilling out the thread in the tube that is welded to the chassis and use a thick washer and lock nut on the other side of the tube to hold in the eye bolt, would this be iva ok?
many thanks Mat.

do you have a picture of the problem?

sorry no ,what i am thinking of doing is drill out the thread and put the eye bolt through the tube and fix with a lock nut and washer on the other side, the threaded tube is welded to the chassis that would normally be the thread that the eye bolt would be held in with, buy bolting through it would save alot of time as the chassis has just been powder coated and i dont really want to start cutting and welding again.hope this makes sense?
thanks Mat.

Dont see any reason why not. As long as its a suitable lock nut

search ebay for harness mounting plate. it could solve your problems!

He's already got fixing points and he doesnt want to weld...

daniel mason - 15/1/11 at 09:59 PM

i know. the harness mounting plates on ebay have a pre welded nut on the underside, meaning all you need to do is drilla hole and screw in an eye bolt

Ben_Copeland - 15/1/11 at 10:00 PM

Yes but they'd need fixing to the chassis, dont think mr IVA man would understand why he'd used them like that

daniel mason - 15/1/11 at 10:12 PM

not too sure i understand then. are you saying a washer and lock nut is a better fixing than a proper fia harness mounting plate?

Ben_Copeland - 15/1/11 at 10:15 PM

I'm saying he already has the fixings welded to the chassis.... so why fix another set on the back where IVA man is going to then want welded.

are we not talkin lower harness mounts under the seat? if he drills out the threads he can put the plate under the car and bolt it through?

Ben_Copeland - 15/1/11 at 10:21 PM

Thought he was talking about the lower harness mounts to the SIDE of the seat. He's welded in a box section into the floor, but now cant turn the eye bolts because they hit the box section.

yes ben your right, all i am wanting to do if fix the eye bolt through the origininal tube that would be drilled out to allow the eye bolt to pass through and be lock nutted the other side of the tube instead of using the thread in the tube.cant seem to be able to add photo to help at the moment?
many thanks mat.

Harness Mount
Harness Mount

Tricky one, as the washer and nut would be seen on the outside?

matswesty - 16/1/11 at 05:52 PM

I think it would be ok as the body work would cover it?
