MOT time but no mapping yet
RazMan - 27/2/11 at 10:35 AM

The day has finally come to get my car back on the road but my new ITBs haven't been mapped yet so I won't pass the emissions test. So what do I do? I need to drive down to AT Speed to get mapped but I can't tax it until I have an MOT.

Can I legally drive there with no tax if I have a booking on the dyno?

You can legally drive to a pre booked MOT test or a place of repair. As to whether or not you would get away with driving any great distance to get it repaired?? Probably not a good idea to drive it too far without mapping anyhow ??. If you can plug into a lap top would the MOT tester allow you to tweak it at the test?

You can drive it to a place of repair without tax AFTER it has failed a test, not before.

There is my dilemma - my MOT tester is a few hundred yards down the road and my nearest Dyno happens to be ATspeed who are 30 miles away.

So if I am to do it the legal way, I must go to my MOT, get a fail and THEN get it mapped?

Yes. 30 miles could be deemed to be pushing it, but if that's the nearest place and you have the fail ticket in hand, you should be within the law.

Thanks for the info

I recall that the CO is only measured at tickover and 3000rpm so if I tweak the map to run an AFR of 14.7 ish at those levels (got my trusty netbook to take with me) then I might be able to cheat the test, at least allowing me to book a Dyno appointment at a convenient time.
