i've got 5mm thick steel plates in my floor for seats and harnesses to bolt to, i can just put a nyloc nut on the eye bolt can't i? i
don't need these do i? it would be silly if i do, just that they're welded to the plate, thats all

should'nt see why not with a couple of large washers only benefit od the welded nut is that it will be a one man job to bolt them in you couls always wels a nut onto you current plate
nice one, large washer will do (although won't really add any strength anyway)
can't weld to the plate, as its about 1.5" above the floor
need to find some good 7/16" unf nuts now, £5.50 for 50 delivered seems a bit too cheap, but probably the same manufacturer as the ones costing

Might be wrong but ISTR it has to be a captive nut of some description.
I think it has to be captive..
has to be a one person job to fit and remove harness bolts for some reason..

What to look for:

Box Sections with heavy lay up (i.e. material thickness).

Reinforced areas, for example using folded metal box sections laminated into the vehicle structure.

Material lay-up of good quality with absence of air bubbles.

7/16" ( 11mm ) UNF threaded fixing of suitable surface area, or welded to a spreader plate of suitable surface area.
Cause for concern:

Threaded fixing/spreader plate of insufficient surface area.

Threaded fixing and/or spreader plate only retained by a thin layer of laminate on the outer surface of the structure.

Material lay-up poor with obvious air bubbles or delamination (separation of material layers).

Cracking or flexing of structural areas.

Loads from anchorages being transmitted to weak areas of vehicle.
you might be right. see, it would still be a 1 person job to fit and remove, but it says it has to be 7/16" ( 11mm ) UNF threaded fixing of

seems a bit silly as the plate its bolted through is plenty strong enough, but just not welded
ah well...
i need 4, why are they sold in 1, 3, 6, or 8s?! what use is that to anyone?

The IVA criteria is that it has to be captive if one person can't reach the bolt and the eye bolt on his own.
On my car the outer lap is easily reachable so not captive the inner however cannot be reached so is captive.
The inner one is just a nut welded to a good sized plate.
