Sidelights required?
ed1801 - 30/3/11 at 07:45 AM

I want to put a pair of photon headlights on. They have no space for sidelights. Can I just bin those as long as I don't have a switch for them?

I'm thinking of my wife's new fiat 500 which has no sidelights at all and only 1 position on the lighting stalk.

Thanks

Ed

PS it is already on the road, so just thinking of plod and MOT

Hmmm... looking over MOT manual, it looks like i need sidelights or daytime running lamps (which the fiat has).

I wonder whether I would get away with running the full beam headlamps through a resistor to limit current to give off 5 watts or so, and therefore a dim 'sidelight'. The headlamps already on there have the sidelight built into the head lamp so not too dissimilar.

Any opinions on this?

Sidelights are a requirement, and, they double as parking lights. How does the fiat get round that? Are the lights automatic?

I think the Fiat 500 gets around sidelights as it has daytime running lights which turn off when the headlights come one. Hence the one lighting option on the stalk.
