DVLA and Engine Swaps
Barksavon - 4/4/11 at 05:56 PM

Has anyone recently notified DVLA of an engine change so the V5 can be updated....seem to think ive read somewhere that they were getting a bit awkward about it.......??

Sent mine off with a letter from a garage stating what engine was in the car, they sent the v5 back 6 weeks later with the new engine no, but still have it down as 2000cc, i thought that stating on the letter that the car was now fitted with a 2005 998cc kawasaki zx10r engine might have given them a clue .....

Makes you wonder where they recruit from, wonder if a nearby mental institution uses them for work placement ?

They did toughen it up but it seems to have got a bit easier from the peak of the jobsworthness again, current evidence required is here:

Change to engine and cylinder capacity (engine size)
DVLA will need written evidence of any changes to engine number and cylinder capacity (cc). Written evidence can be:
a receipt for the replacement engine
written evidence from the manufacturer
an inspection report provided for insurance purposes
written confirmation on headed paper from a garage if the change in engine size took place before you bought the vehicle

No, they just make all the rules.

I sent mine off with a DVLA check on the donor car for the engine displacement, photos of the engine and number, and a covering letter detailing exactly what was coming out, and going in.

Came back three weeks later all changed from 2.2 to 2.0L. No letter from the garage necessary, just the relevant logical evidence and some careful words. The letter took me ages to write because of this, trying to make sure it was completely understandable. I ended up wording it as though it was a method statement.

Its public sector so employing the most imcompetent members of society in non-jobs is their bread and butter.
