So when will Prince Charles get a NIP in the post
scudderfish - 30/4/11 at 08:44 AM

As his car was driven with an illegal rear number plate?

lotusmadandy - 30/4/11 at 08:49 AM

I Wondered that myself.
The car that William travelled to his wedding in,didnt even have any plates on

Andy

scootz - 30/4/11 at 08:50 AM

And none of them were wearing seat belts.

BigFaceDave - 30/4/11 at 09:00 AM

I believe if the car is state owned then they dont need number plates its only private and company vehicles that are required to have number plates (basically eveything exept the queens / royals stuff) so maybe the state own the aston I could be wrong but that was my understanding of it. Must make taxing it online tricky!

jabs - 30/4/11 at 09:02 AM

None of them had tax disks anyway. Do they need insurance?

StevieB - 30/4/11 at 09:11 AM

Regardless of whether the car's state owned or not, I imagine there's a dispensation so that his number plate wasn't on display to the billions of people round the world watching on TV.

Very nice car though!

Guinness - 30/4/11 at 09:19 AM

I think on days like that it really does become "The Queens Highway".

Triton - 30/4/11 at 09:21 AM

Cracking car and the lad has got style as he rides(no doubt surrounded by armed guards) a Ducati....

The front plate looked legit.

scootz - 30/4/11 at 09:41 AM

Had to laugh at the wishy-washy Beeb commentary at that point... "and isn't it nice to see them out and about without any security".

I'm guessing you've not noticed the whacking-great Range Rover driving 3-feet behind them with a PPO and 3 back-up!

Or all the armed uniforms standing between them and the crowd!

Dangle_kt - 30/4/11 at 10:32 AM

doubt it will be insured.

I'm pretty sure you only need insurance if you cant afford to pay up to £Xm.

The state can.

PSpirine - 30/4/11 at 10:36 AM

The state under-write themselves.

As do large companies for their prototype/testing cars.

*ETA: Slow computer - basically what Dangle said!

bottom line is... Hes in line for the thrown, its his wedding day. Who honestly gives a flying F that he has that rear number plate? Surely there are more important things to moan about

Seconded that man, we need to be proud of our heritage.

stevegough - 30/4/11 at 11:19 AM

EBY776J was 'not found' on the DVLA website enquiry.

I heard it referred to as RR1 and with the high windows etc. it's one of the Queen's cars. ISTR that the monarch is the only person in the UK not required to display a registration plate, so there was no problem there.

BBC 3 news update thing was even better
"later, the couple enjoyed some fun in a convertible"

They all drive themselves when they want to. There were photos some years ago of the Queen attending a shoot - she looked a right scruffy mess and drove herself there in a series Landrover. You've got to give her respect for that.

blakep82 - 30/4/11 at 08:20 PM

apparently the queens quite a mechanic too, could put most of us to shame lol

MikeR - 30/4/11 at 08:29 PM

The car is taxed, if you watch the footage, you can see the tax disk. I suspect its marked as a special car & therefore doesn't come up when you do a tax disk search.

I thought it was absolutely fabulous and like many things yesterday loved it. I wish them all the happiness & hope they have a long and happy life together.

and on Tuesday I'm putting money on Harry getting to know Pippa

owelly - 30/4/11 at 08:55 PM

The Queen can use a vehicle with blank number plates but should still have them. The charge for not having any at all would be a civil offence, not a motoring one, of avading prosecution or perverting the course of justice. I'm not sure that those two had any intentions of causing trouble....
And the road traffic acts applies to 'public places'. I'm pretty certain that closing the roads and lining them with barriers and security would make the roads fairly unpublic.
Not wearing the seat belts in the Aston? Was it fitted with any? Or did it have lap belts? Either way, I couldn't give a toss.
The only thing that would have been cooler than the Aston would have been for them to leave on the Ducati one the back wheel with her dress up round her armpits as that's what happens if you pillion insists one wearing a dress........(he won't do that again)

austin man - 30/4/11 at 09:38 PM

I wouldnt think that it is in the best interest of royalty to have people able to access certain information so woul not be accesible via DVLA, the car did not require seat belts due to its age and it would also be tax exempt, it would carry a tax disc if ths where the case.

I see no one picked up that it had been converted to run on unwanted wine lol

RK - 30/4/11 at 10:21 PM

Government vehicles do not have insurance. If your government cannot afford to pay for repairs in case of a prang by a royal, you have bigger problems than that!

Macbeast - 1/5/11 at 07:13 AM

I don't think it's in MY best imterests that people - eg parking enforcement - can access my details from the DVLA

That car ain't a government vehicle it was a personal gift her majesty from the Queen to her son more than 40 years ago, who I believe has gifted it on to his first born, therefore personal property.
If it belonged to the monarch herself it would not require number plates or tax disk but it clearly doesn't and such behaviour from members of royal family in direct line to throne or not sends out a very wrong message to the pratts who play scrabbled with registration plate letters.

PSpirine - 1/5/11 at 11:18 AM

Who cares? Awesome car!

scootz - 1/5/11 at 11:25 AM

Who cares... full stop!

Was pointed out on a different forum

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1381168/Royal-Wedding-Kate-Middleton-Prince-Williams-day-freedom.html

Flat tyres, tinted visor after sundown, and may as well have been wearing t-shirt shorts and flip flops
