Hello everyone!

I've been building my Sylva Riot SE now for just over a year and have just run the 1.7 Puma Sigma engine on origional ECU

for the first time.

I've started to think about the IVA and hope to have the car ready for the early spring but I am struggluing to find a basic

guide to compliance issues. I want to present the car with as many of the possible common failure areas addressed.

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Sadly, the IVA isnt basic so a basic guide isnt much use. Check the main manual, its not has daunting as it first seems once youve skipped over the bits that arent relevant or are fairly obvious.

Best thing to do is it get it as far as you can the post aload of pics for the 2nd pairs of eyes on here to nose at! Seems to work for previous people.

Do you have a copy of the IVA manual?

If not check the IVA section and the last post usually has a download to the latest.

If you can find a 100mm ball useful for checking external projections.

If it looks cack, it probably is, items of protection must look permanent.

Other then that check with other riot builders see who is in the area and post pictures if unsure.

I am a bit surprised that you have got so very far into the build without consulting the document that guides you through the test.
In essence, sharp edges, position and visibility of lights, P clipping distance of cables and pipes, proof of engine age and the associated emission requirements, seat belt mountings and height of top mounts.
You should also have a comprehensive set of receipts and build photos.
Luckily the Riot is quite IVA compliant, you now need to check your work thoroughly.
Would be worth getting someone who has built and passed to look over your build, a second pair of eyes often sees what you don't.

I work in the electrical installation industry and the regulations that we have to follow are understandably complex and detailed as they have to be to cover the many possible situations that they might be applied to - there are many books available by independent authors that provide a stripped down and plain english guide for everyday use. I rather nievely thought that someone within the kit car industry might of produced something similar.

My nearest IVA test centre is a 120 mile round trip plus loss of a days pay plus the cost of the test itself. It therefore seems sensible to prepare the car as well as possible, I hoped that owners of similar cars could share minor problem that had caused them to fail IVA.

I am building the car with close reference to the manual and the IVA guide, I am lucky to live within a few miles of Jeremy Philips the Riots designer who occasionally comes and casts an eye over progress.
