Advice Reqd - Registration Docs
Wheels244 - 8/11/11 at 10:49 AM

Hello All

I need some advice please.

I bought Ned's project and he gave me the registration plates of the doner Sierra, but he can't find the V5 and vin plate.
I don't want it to go on a 'Q' plate - I know there are some advantages to having a 'Q', but I want in on an age related plate so I can put a private plate on it eventually.

Is there anyway I can get the VIN number from the registration number ? - it's registered to Ned and then he could sign it over to me.
DVLA require the VIN number for a duplicate V5 to be issued - and there in lies the problem.
I've done a search online and couldn't find anything.

Any advice gratefully recieved.

Go to the post office and apply for another V5C as the new owner. The DVLA will write to Ned notifying him of the change, and they will eventually send you the new V5 in your name.

What are the advantages to a Q plate then, i would love a private plate for my kit but as its a q plate this is'nt allowed. Be intrigued to know any advantages.

My understanding from readings on here is that it's just a visual for emmisions at MOT - but I could be wrong.

Could it be that simple ?
Any idea of the form required ?
The form for a duplicte V5 requires the VIN number.

Ive just done this myself, your need the green slip (new keepers supplement) from the V5, VIN number date of purchase etc. I didnt have the VIN number as i scapped the car shortly after stripping it, but luckily found it on a old MOT doc i got with the vehicle so you could try this approch?

All this information needs to go on a V62. Took about 6 weeks to get my V5 through.

If its not on the road i.e. taxed you also need to send in a SORN declaration .V890.

This is all free if the previous owner has failed to send off the V5 (or you say he has)

Edit: I can help you thinking about it. U2U me the reg, cant say how though, well not on here. Or you pay for a HPI? Would that give you the VIN?

That way he gets the fine for failing to notify the DVLA.

Once upon a time maybe but not anymore. It goes by your engine date and emissions from that time.

DVLA might charge you £25 if you do not have the v5 or the green new owners slip. I know they tried to with me until I sent in the green slip and another application form. That was the first time they have ever asked for a fee from me and as I have 8 vehicles on sorn at the moment perhaps they think I am a dealer, or at least should pay something towards the cost of all the work I cause them.

I wouldn't mind paying the fee.
The stumbling block is not having the VIN number or any of the documents with it on.
