A long long way off for me ...
Whats the bare minimum of screen demister thats got through an IVA ?
One that looks like it will work, mine was "tested" with a cigerate paper (I kid you not)..
I dont want a heater in my car, will one of the 12v heater/fan things do ? or does it have to be a "proper" one plumbed in the normal fashion ?
What about a heated front screen ?
Wont be the chepest way but will work and take up no space whilst adding very little weight.
I was going to use a caravan hair drier which is 12v hooked up to some duct
Got a mini heater in the end though to please the wifey
I just want the barest minimum to get a tick in the IVA demister box section.
There is room for a matrix/fan - But the car will never get used when its cold or wet ..

for £12, they look a good bet actually, thats £1 per volt! 2 would be perfect i think acutally, modified a bit for mounting and stuff...
From the manual
1.
The vehicle must be fitted with a system capable of defrosting / demisting the windscreen.
2.
A system using warm air to clear the screen must employ fan assistance and ducting to direct the air onto the screen, to ensure effective operation
under cold weather conditions.
3.
An electrically heated screen must provide adequate heat and distribution to ensure effective operation.
But has anyone turned up for an IVA with a caravan hairdryer ? Looks good to me, aslong as it gets the tick.
i sort of think, if a hair dryer can shift enough warm air to dry a ladies thrink long flowing hair, then it should be ok to demist a window. think i'll get one in the next few months to use for de-icing the windscreen and see how it goes, before deciding on whether to mod a few to fit under the dash
I passed SVA with 2 12v ceramic fan heaters bought from a caravan shop for £12 each. Mounted one each side direct into the dash top.
Passed no problem. Tester just checked they blew and got warm with his hand.
I have them wired to an off/on/on switch so first position is just drivers side and second is both. The units also have a switch on the side so I can
set them for cold only or hot. Truth is it's not condensation thats the trouble but rain on the inside and they don't cope with that. A good
squeege is always to hand.
