I know there have been plenty of discussions on here about IVA requirements etc. with respect to proof of self-build etc. but I just want to know how
much I need to provide for the IVA form submission and VOSA/DVLA?
I have built a McSorley +442 Locost from scratch and used parts from different vehicles
1980 2L Pinto
Type 9 gearbox (1986 Sierra IIRC)
Cortina Uprights
English Axle (Cortina?)
Escort Drums
I will be on a 'Q'-plate (not bothered anyhow, it's only a number ).
I bought most stuff of the Bay or through private ads. But the problem is, I bought the steel back in 2005 and I have no receipts etc. so cannot prove
the chassis materials were bought by me.
I do have LOTS of pictures from every stage of the build from 2005 up to the present day and plenty of shots of things that will not be visible by Mr
IVA come the day.
Where do I stand regards receipts etc. for steel and other major components?
I also intend to contact DVLA pre-test for the VIN as this seems to be the safest way to avoid 'issues' later on
Any input gratefully received.
JB
When I did SVA I had misplaced my reciept for the steel, (found it some time later filed in the wrong place), I just took several pictures of the chassis build, satisfied the inspector, but that was SVA don't know regarding IVA. HTH Ray
I have to say the way the kit-car community has dealt with this issue is very poor.
Please note- they're not saying we have to have bought these things from registered or approved suppliers, just that we have to prove we bought
them from someone. The fact that that person could be Mr Lightfinger who specialises in front garden metal removal is totally irrelevant. So
essentially we're being told we have to prove we haven't personally stolen these things. Essentially we're being told we're
thieves (in the total abscence of any evidence) and they'll only process our car if we prove our innocence. IE guilty until proven innocent. And
as far as I'm aware there isn't actually a legal requirement for these documents, they just threaten to stall an official process until we
comply with their demands.
I'd love to see a test case where someone refused to hand over any documents and see what VOSA did.
I didn't have any receipts so just said so and said if they wanted to officially suggest I'd stolen these things I would like it in writing.
Nowadays I'd just write a receipt from myself to myself, selling the items to me for £0.00p.
Whilst I approve the desire to clamp down on the use of stolen goods, considering people guilty until they prove themselves innocent and doing it in
such a cack-handed way that actually it doesn't stop stolen goods being used is just stupid, aggravating and probably illegal.
What are you all faffing on about. I did an iva test two weeks ago. I filled out the form and sent it off with a cheque and that was it. if the
examiner on the day suspects that you are not an amateur builder then they may ask you for evidence on the day. the ametaur build declaration form is
enough as far as I am aware. if they are not happy they will call and ask you to email stuff over.
now when it comes to registering the car with the dvla all you have to do I provide enough info to prove the parts either come from a donor or are New
depending on what plate you want. if you can't do that you get a q plate.
I am fed up of people thinking this process is difficult. it's not its bloody easy
what about proof of engine age ?

Again actual proof of engine age is only required on the test day, you just have to state what it is on the form. if you can't prove it at the
test then they subject you to a basic cat test. Mr c I don't like being referred to as someone who speaks ball.
P.s with the ford engines the Berton catalogue is fine. Or you can use the donor v5 as long as the engine was the original out of the donor. this is
possible because on Ford's the last digits.of the vin are the same as the engine number If it is the original engine.
I don't want to start a war but how many iva's have you done? personally I have put 2 cars through it in the last 2 years, and attended at
least three other tests with friends on their test days, along with helping several people do all the required forms online and in person. I
wouldn't call myself an expert by a long shot but I have had enough experience of how the system works to try and save others unnecessary pain.

See, all better now after a kiss and make-up
But seriously guys, thanks for your input. All I have to do now is grow some and apply for the test

Ash, it was my attempt at humour, and a reference to to a popular printing kit / toy when I was a child, no doubt superseded by pc's and printers, along with the miraculous appearance of a book full of reciept's. There was no offence ever intended or mean't.
I do value your views and was hoping to contact you at some point, regarding your experience at Gillingham as I'm about to book the storm in, hopefully for the end of May. I don't want to hijack the thread though.
Mike
