I've been emailing Ford to find out the age of my engine for emissions for IVA (it is pre 95) however they have emailed me back saying I need the
chassis number from the donor vehicle and it's not possible for them to verify the age of the engine from the engine number alone. I bought the
engine on it's own and I really don't think it will be possible for me to find this info out. Has anyone else had this issue and if so how
did they get round it?
Thanks
Tatey
Nope, I just sent them the engine number and they sent a letter back with the date. This was last year.
Mine was a zetec.
Who have you been emailing? The best thing is to send a letter to:
Ford Technical Information Centre
PO Box 300
Walsall
WS5 4QH
I did that and just explained why I wanted it and gave them the engine number. Got a letter back within about a week
This is what I sent - made easy for you, you only need to copy and paste and then put your address on it.
Ford Technical Information Centre,

Dear Sirs,
Re: Duratec Engine Information
I am currently in the process of changing the engine in my kit car from a Ford Pinto to a Ford Duratec. As part of this process I need a letter from
Ford confirming the Engine Number and the exact cylinder capacity (cc) of the particular engine to provide to the DVLA.
I can confirm my engine number as ……………………………………………………………. and would ask that you provide a letter to my above address reconfirming this engine number
and its exact cc.
Thank you very much for your time in this matter and I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.
Yours Sincerely,
When i wanted the letter for my old Zetec Westy i just sent the serial number off the engine and Mr Ford sent a nice letter back free of charge with
all the info needed
Didn't have to provide the chassis number
I'm surprised they do this free of charge to be honest, it's going to take someone some time to faff about and it's not like it's legally required of them. I'm hoping Audi will be equally helpful.
Does this help?...

I don´t think it´s free nor shocking...
If I was an Engine manufacturer, and they ask me this, I would provide on the basis that there´s one more Acevedo Engine on the road...
So there´s one less engine from my competition..
So... If all goes bang, or a refurbish is needed, gess who is selling spares??
My opinion only...
And some of us will provide free advertising while talking to our peers regarding choice of engine and so, and so..

I did have the reg and VIN of the donor car though.
I think the last part of the ford vin and then engine no. are always the same, (unless an engine swap etc)
so if the engine no. and doner vin agree that would be good enough proof of age.
the etis site is good, but I don't know how far back it goes
That was the case with mine, 7 digit engine number is also last 7 digits of VIN.
