I'm sure i've seen this thread before but after much searching I've drawn a blank so here goes...

Got my SVA a week on Monday (yikes!) but have yet to do any setting up of my suspension, so I was wondering what the best settings are to get the required self centring etc?

Also, has anyone got any tips for setting up without special tools? (I've got the usual spirit level etc)

Hi-Pete - I was advised by MK's Snoopy to put the hole in the mushrooms to the front of the car - have the top of the wheels one degree in camber and the tracking at 0 degrees this is for after the SVA but for the SVA have the tracking so the wheels are looking outwards at the front of the car - this helps with self centering and my car passed ok with this setting ps. hope snoopy doesn't mind me passing this info on. Thanks Jacko, I'll use those settings and see how I get on, as long as it passes SVA that's fine, then I can fiddle about with it a bit more afterwards to get the handling sorted.

How can I measure the tracking without specialist equipment? I was going to use a spirit level against the wheel for camber but hadn't figured caster out yet.

Also, any advice for rear camber?

a gunsons trakrite (about £60) will do the toe / tracking

you can do toe setting with string and various combinations of bit of wood / nails / spirit levels etc

i.e.

but for £60 the trakrite got my vote - easy to use and always there when you want it.

and good a good old plumb line will help you do your castor settings (if you can adjust them)
