im wanting to sort out my v5 to state engine change in the caterham. from 1400cc k series to 1299cc hayabusa. how do i go about the change,as i need it doing fairly quickly? cheers
If the Tax band changes you have to got to DVLA office apparently. I tried by post but they sent it back
You need get a garage / engineer to write to DVLA to certify the change, and provide new cc and engine number. I don't see why the engineer
couldn't be a mate though.

I've changed mine in the past and am about to again. Last time I filled in the cc change and engine number on the V5, wrote a polite letter stating what I'd done, and included about 5 good quality photos, one of which included a legible VIN. I got the V5 updated and returned pretty quickly and didn't need to go to a garage/engineer. Maybe I got lucky, I'll soon find out when I send off the next one.
can i go to dvla directly,and take photos/evidence etc and have them do it there and then? tax band stays the same.
Scan it in, perform the alteration, then print it out!
Simples.
I just corrected the V5 with new engine number and cc, then sent it off, came back in a couple of weeks.

You are joking aren't you? When have the DVLA ever been that helpful or efficient? Always worth a shot though, if
you don't try you will never know but I wouldn't hold me breath though if I were you. I tried to change mine about 2 years ago. As I was increasing engine size I thought they would be happy with my word I clearly wasn't trying to
get cheaper VED.
despite this they returned my v5 unchanged. In fact IIRC they sent me two!!

I didnt have an engineer sign mine off and they changed it from 2.2 to 2.0L no problems at all.
I did however, have the old documents from the 2L Car, with a DVLA Reg Check search which showed engine number and VIN, along with the disposal part
of the V5 which referenced the VIN to the engine number....
They didnt give me any problems at all. They even filled in the V5 correctly!!
When I sold toy car a year ago, the chap that bought it obviously wanted everything in order so I said I'd sort that out.
Sent V5 to DVLA with a note and got it back unchanged, they said I needed a letter from a garage - I even shouted down the phone that I was the
fecking manufacturer!!
Eventually (after a lot of toing and froing) got a friend to do a note on headed paper and it got corrected, however there is a box on the form that
you can tick saying "it was like that when I got it"

Our local DVLA office would do this sort of thing quickly without fuss
Government cuts mean all local offices are shutting down
We will have to deal with these matter on .Gov web site or with DVLA Swansea
