Which DVLA office ??
belgian2b - 19/3/13 at 02:03 PM

Hello,

i am in Belgium and i need to present my kitcar ( coming from UK) to DVLA office in order to change some information on the V5 before starting the registration of the car in Belgium.

So which DVLA office is the most Kit Car Friendly ?
Remember that i am coming from Belgium and i would not prefer to travel to the North but i would rather stay as close as possible to Douvres.

Maidstone is the nearest. The kitcar man is only there Wednesdays and you usually need to make an appointment. What exactly do you want to change?

Hello Ashg,

I want to change first registration date.
The car was age Related plate (it had the donor registration, so first reg in 1988), but first registration date on V5 is 2002, which is the date the kit was built.
It makes on difference in uk, but in belgium it makes a big difference for emission test! ( pinto engine)

I would expect them to do it to be honest. DVLA are unhelpfull enough at best of times, something like that sounds like it would get caught in red tape, and thats if their even willing to do it.
Try an email to them first.

Hi
in my experience Brighton DVLA was extremely helpful
in every way for our kit car. both on the inspection for the VIN no
and the registration following the IVA test.
The guy I dealt with was named Steve
I would suggest you give him a ring he has to be the most
helpful guy in the world (no he is not related)
Ask the questions .

Good luck
René.

I sent a letter a few weeks ago, and they just replied that they had to see the car, but they did not said if they would make the change or not.

What do you mean by : "something like that sounds like it would get caught in red tape"

I do not understand that expression. Could you please explain ?

Red tape is bureaucracy, the fact there are so few fixed guidelines for the DVLA to follow, if you went to one they might do it straight away, another might do it after a week processing, and another might refuse fullstop.
