E Marking

Probably been done to death...but here goes.

I purchaed a nice set of front wing mount indicators from ebay for my J15 build (second hand). now they have arrived they do not have an emark on them, but are clearly good quality.....Question...can I use them?.

It would be a risk that could cost you a retest fee.

Make sure that your rear fog is F or B marked as well a E

Yes, there is no requirement for an e mark on anything but the fog lamp (actually needs an F mark).
However if the tester thinks they are too dim or the wrong colour then it's down to you to prove they're ok, in that case the e-mark is 99% of the argument won. I don't think many people have ever had a problem with this though.

OK thank guys......understand that an E mark is the best way to prove compliance, but I understand these type of indicators are sold by CBS as IVA ok.....I'll take a risk for now.

Keep in mind it's not the E mark that matters in that case but the code number that goes with it to designate what the light has been approved as. IVA manual lists the numbers that apply to various types of lamps.

The key wording is:
'All lamps must emit light of an equivalent brightness and colour when compared to an e approved lamp of the same type'

Except of course the rear fog lamp, which as mentioned MUST have an E mark:

All rear fog lamps must display an “e” or “E” mark with a “B” or “F”
