Registering a car that passed an SVA in 2005.....
mackei23b - 27/9/13 at 10:02 AM

Hi there

I've recently purchased a Caterham that was SVA'd in 2005, but it was never registered as it has been used as a race car.

I've had confimation from VOSA and Gillingham that the car was SVA'd and passed in June 2005 and I am currently liasing with the DVLA about whether it needs to now go through an IVA (The car was factory built and presented by Caterham Cars for the SVA). I know of one other Caterham that was registered successfully with 6 years beween SVA and registration.

Anyone has a similar experience?

Best regards

Ian

Im sure I read/heard that an SVA/IVA certficate is only valid for 2 years?

IVA guidance here https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/209278/guide-to-the-iva-scheme.pdf
states:

9.1 Is my SVA certificate still valid?
Due to the mandatory introduction of IVA, an SVA certificate issued to an M1 passenger car (other
than a special purpose vehicle) was only valid for registration purposes until 31st December 2009
. An
SVA certificate for an M1 passenger car that was a special purpose vehicle was valid for registration
purposes until 31st December 2012. An SVA certificate issued to an N1 light goods vehicle (other than
a special purpose vehicle) is only valid for registration until 29th April 2013 and for a special purpose
goods vehicle until 28th October 2014.

Looks like unless you fit a crane to it or a tipper body and call it a special purpose goods vehicle then you are looking at an IVA test

Just had confimation back from VOSA that

"SVA certificates ceased to be valid for registration purposes after close of business on 28th April 2013. "

So IVA it is......
