directional spare
indykid - 21/10/04 at 11:24 PM

does it matter if i was to present the indy for sva with a heavily directional spare tyre?

just wondering about technicalities of mounting no plate to spare wheel carrier with no spare, assuming I don't require one specifically for sva. i don't really want to fit a plate to the rear panel then retrofit post sva.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. it causes me trouble does this bar steward sva

Spare tyres are just more weight. Get an AA card or halfords slime to reinflate a flat tyre.
My van does 25 thou a year and we dont even have a jack! As the man said SVA can only test if its there.

I persume the spare wheel carrier can be empty, as long as it conforms to edge regulations.

You got to think, spare wheel? or having to wait over an hour for rescue when your tyre goes flat. Reinflate stuff also dont work if you get something in the side wall. Think if you where really worried about weight, then its a no-no, but if your not overly bothered go for it. Spare wheel on the back looks better in my option!!!

Not sure the heavily directional tyre, as long as it's legal for the road, cant see a problem??

no spare for me- imo they ruin the lines and as mango says, needless weight. for the 2000 miles i do a year in my Indy its worth the risk!

spare tyre.........? They don't need em - Scotlad and Mango are both full of hot air anyway..............

No spare for me, I have a can of that foam stuff and an RAC card

nope, no spare either. Got a GreenFlag account that covers any car I drive.

Personal opinion oviously, but I think the spare clutters an other wise clean looked rear end

i wanted a spare for touring europe. i can't imagine the aa will tow you home from the far side of switzerland!

n e way will probably leave it without for sva and devise some sort of no plate lamp to run in a bolt hole for the reinforcing plate

thanks for your views

Tom....
Dunno if you have seen them, but there are things on the market called litebolts.....these are number plate lights in bolts...

indykid - 23/10/04 at 07:57 PM

had considered them. however, did'nt know what sva would make of them, edge regs and all that.

hmmm. might have to try and blag a set from work.

cheers for the idea

i think a spare adds a bit of interest to the seven rear end.

a flat plain sheet of alu is pretty boring looking.
