Tried searching, but not finding what I'm after!
If you re-shell a car, i.e. take a shell that's V5 registered and declared SORN and transfer all the running gear, interior etc from another V5
registered car, which identity does the resulting vehicle take?
Ideally I'd like to retain the identity of the original vehicle and not the new shell. Can this be done by changing the VIN on the original
V5?
Thanks
Started again because of thoroughly confusing myself!
You need to have a brand new shell.

OK - so it would have to take the ID of the shell being used. I guess then its a case of getting the engine no. changed on the V5.

Agreed, suspension, axles steering etc would all be identical anyway and are not serial numbered in any case. The engine no. change would really be to keep things in order should the car be sold.
as above once a shell has been registered it'll keep that id till its scrapped

sounds good to me ....besides there is no law against replacing any number of worn out parts with either new or second hand ones
you could do a cherished transfer to keep the reg. number - but the old shell would need an MOT for that....

get the plate off it now before the MOT runs out (doesn't cost much to keep it)
then transfer it onto the other one once its rebuilt
