New reg or age related?

Hi Guys,

Ive been looking through a few build diaries and am a bit confused about 1 thing in particular.

The rules might have changed, but I always though that you could only have 1 reconditioned component on the vehicle if you wanted to have a new registration? 3 out of the 4 logs I have read have ended up on a new reg even though they used donor car parts.

It is just luck of the draw when you come up against the DVLA, or its it a bit of artistic licence with the silver paint and invoices on the builders behalf?

Im not having a pop at anyone, I'm just interested as I will be road registering my car in the future.

Thanks

Shaun

Your spot on and the rules haven't changed
Personally I wouldn't even bother trying for a new reg, age related is much more classy

The age related is indeed much easier to achieve
New plate is a nice to have if you've spent the money on all new bits
I would imagine the cost difference for age related and new reg on say an MK would be substantial

Thats my point exactly - everything would have to be new (apart from 1 thing) - the builds I have seen have used donor parts and have been given a new reg.

They get new regs because dvla are useless and most the time don't know their own rules etc.

Its not so much about rules, its more about you prove new parts, its easy enough for people to create reciepts etc. I bet the builds youve seen wer good ones and as such, looked new throughout.

Q plate every time, in fact if i built another car and failed to get a Q reg i would be pretty disappointed.

My reasons are emissions being visible only, i just cant be arsed with all that faffing about just to get through an MOT.
I know it's not a pain for most but i do know a few that have to mess about with there fire breathing engines just to get a ticket.
