My list of things to do to get the car ready for IVA is as follows:
Get exhaust made and fitted (booked for 17th March)
Fix a couple of niggling problems with the electrics
Re-fit wing mirrors (taken off so as not to be damaged at the exhaust fitters)
Attach bias bar and brake fluid warning stickers
Run the engine up to full temperature and check for leaks etc
Align headlights
Make it look nice to impress Mr IVA - spit and polish
All in all, not very much left to do and I'm hoping to be road legal by Stoneleigh. So, I have a few questions that I would appreciate the views
of the collective on....
I) Any reason why I cannot apply for IVA now - i.e. before going to the exhaust fitters? Obviously I'll not be able to include pictures of the
exhaust with the build photos. I'm thinking that doing it now will give me the best chance of a date as soon after getting the car back as
possible
ii) Date of Engine: I don't have any evidence of the age of the car that the engine came out of. However, it does have an engine code
that's listed in the VOSA 'In service emissions standards..." guide. The code is 28 6S 1 and the guide lists the required MOT
emissions standards for that engine. Presumably this will do as proof of which set of emissions the IVA man should test against.
iii) Electrics: Some people on here seem to have suffered from the IVA man not liking the wiring not being protected all of the way to the connector
(i.e. light bulb or whatever). Not sure what's meant by this. My wires are trunked to within a few of cm of the terminal but from then on the
individual wires split out but have there own insulation all of the way to the terminal. Is this good enough? Also, I've used chocolate block
connectors in some places, is this considered to be OK?
Does VOSA accept a disc with scanned in photos and receipts, or do they require hard copy of both and originals of the receipts?
Apologies for the slightly wordy post - the IVA nerves have started to kick in!! Full set of pre-IVA photos to follow once the exhaust is on

1 - No, get it applied for. I sent a disc of images with my IVA application and sealed the box the disc was in. It was returned un-opened.
2 - Good with Word ? Make your own letter to be 100% sure. I had a letter from Ford with my engine when I went for the IVA, chap spent about 3 seconds
looking at it.
3 - All the electrics behind my dash were mostly covered, but not everywhere. I got no mention of any issues with it.
On a separate note - do a thread showing loads of photos or your car from all angles - front, rear, side, arches, suspension, pedals, seats, dash etc
so people can try and spot anything which you've missed.

Do you have any idea what age the engine is? Anything post '95 will be a full cat test and without proof of age it will fall back to that.. Does the info you have state differently? You can always call the test centre and ask if the info you have will do.
Its a 1997 BMW engine, so the issue is whether or not I can prove that its a pre-2002 engine as the idle and fast idle CO limits are slightly stricter
after that date. This is the emissions standards document that I'm currently relying on
Emissions standards and engine
codes
My engine code is listed. Also, BMW stopped making the M52 engine before 2002, so I may also try to get BMW to confirm that in writing as added
cover.
Edit: Just noticed that page 8 of section 02B of the IVA manual says that the emissions should be tested against the code in the 'in service
emissions' book if an exact match can be found, which is what I have, so I should be OK. Panic over!

What did you do about the indicators in the end?
Also did Luego provide you with any information regarding the chassis? I have nothing for mine at all.
