Side repeater position
neilp1 - 4/4/14 at 07:38 PM

One of my next jobs is the side repeaters. I was planning on fitting them to the outside edge of the front cycle wings.
I have read the IVA manual, but it doesn't really state where they have to be. I have done a search on here, but couldn't find anything to say not to put them on the front wings.

Cheers,
Neil

Does it not say what the viewing angles need to be in the manual?

Then you can work out the best position, or , have look at the recent pass photos on here, or even the fails if that wasnt an issue?

Don't want to mount on rear arches if possible.

Front cycle wings is fine. Indicators are tested with wheels straight ahead and visibility is 5-60degrees rearward. Is all voveref in IVA manual will check section an post back.

Steve,

here is what the manual says-

Angles of visibility
a. Horizontal
i. 80deg outwards 45deg inwards.
ii. < 750mm above the ground 20deg inwards
iii. (SIDE REPEATER) To the rear between 5deg and 60deg outboard.
b. Vertical
i. < 750mm above the ground 15deg above and 5deg below horizontal.
ii. Otherwise 15deg above and below horizontal.

I can't understand what/where these are taken??

Or

Must type faster...

The side repeaters can be at any height and on the outer edge if cycle wings is ideal as generally this is widest point of car.

where did you have them on the first test to fail please?

renetom - 5/4/14 at 05:08 PM

Hi
I took great pains to fit them on the front roll cage tubes
Drilling & fishing for the wires inside the tubes for neatness.
Then then bastard failed them, was I chuffed ?

I wanted mine on the scuttle but couldn't due to the angles. 5deg out was fine but the 5deg down meant that the arch was in the way.
I ended up putting Button 12v Amber LED CLEAR Side Indicator light/Repeater/kit car westfield/dax in the arches but removed the rubber bits.

If you do put them in the arches they must be a maximum of 2.6m from the front of the car.

I passed IVA with them on the outside edges of the front cycle wings.

Whilst I didn't pass my IVA on Friday, he had no problem with where I put my LED side repeaters as shown in this picture. They only test the angles with the wheels pointing straight forward so as long as you position them so that the 5 degree angle to the rear clears the rear arches at their widest point you should be fine.

By the way, don't use chocolate block connectors. I used them in a couple of places and it would have been a fail had he not let us change them on the day.

On what basis did he fail them?

renetom - 6/4/14 at 08:08 AM

He failed them on front visibility, I then suggested small aly shrouds, he said no
Then said the radiuses were borderline.
Basicly he did not like them there, & whatever he was going to fail them.
I feel sure that another place & time they would have passed.
But what the man say's goes,

From what I've seen/read on here the side repeaters don't get checked for visibility from the front?

Steve Wallace's Viento has them on the rear face of front cycle wings, and it didn't fail on them Friday just gone.

neilp1 - 6/4/14 at 07:10 PM

Guys thanks for the replies. I have now fitted them to the outside edge of the front cycle wings.
