I'm not using a collumn off a sierra or anything, and want a starter button, so I looked out an on-off switch that you can't take the key
out when on, found one on ebay, cheap, bought it, but its also got a start position
Would iva be a problem if the start isn't connected to anything? Or if the key and button both esstentially do the same job?
I have a full column switch and a start button. I used the start position on the ignition switch for the brake fluid lamp test switch, the examiner liked it.
I've got a savage start switch in the garage if that's any good?
nice idea on the brake test! i've already got a test button under the warning light though...
barkalarr, is your switch a starter button, or key switch? I've already got both, but could do with a nicer key switch
This any good? No start position.Universal Ignition Switch For Motorcycles Honda Yamaha Kawasaki Suzuki KTM
yes! spot on. i've put that on my watch list (since i've already bought one thats not ideal)
cheers!
Mine is a start switch
not sure if I am remembering correctly, but isn't there something in the IVA re having a locking steering wheel? - or possibly in the new MOT
regs?
my current xtreme has the lock broken out as the key was so close to the dash it was really annoying - an alarm which says the ignition switch can be
on or off, which is just a 40amp decent toggle switch and similar next to it for a starter..
I was too before I did the above looking for a decent switch but never thought to look for bike parts.. nice idea.

No need for steering lock. I've got immobiliser and key, so I'm sorted

Think you need two items to secure the car for IVA, so if you have no steering lock you need an electronic immobiliser along with an ignition key.

FWIW the requirement for a key is rather hazy -the glossary states that an ignition switch is a "key operated switch", but otherwise a key is not specifically required in the regs. Since many production cars have no key operated switch I suspect that this is just an anacronism. Worth checking with your local test centre, I don't have one and nobody said a word about it.
That'd make sense.
