Windscreen SVA stuff
Jeffers_S13 - 11/11/04 at 12:46 PM

I bought a part built Rush, quite an old one so the windscreen has a square edge which will be a fail at SVA time.

I do want a windscreen but dont want to fork out for a new one or risk messing up the current one by rounding off the edge. Also the wiper motor and the mechanicals are already installed, not heater yet though.

What are my actual options ! no suggestions please ! I want something that will deffo convince the SVA bloke.

I have read and heard of people simply unbolting it for the SVA, does this actually work ! ? I would then put grommets in the wiper holes and I guess omit the wiper switch in the dash, do I also need to remove the wiper motor ? how much do they investigate under the scuttle ? and or question the fact there is nowt there ?

Will just sticking some sort of rounded trim to it be acceptable ?

Thanks

James

If it aint there they cant test it. Blank the holes off and go with that. NB take the wiper mech out as a temp.

The bottom of your dash needs rounded as well looking at the foto archive.

The dash has yet to be covered, I have since made a different dash to suit my new gauges, albeit in the same style of a sheet of ali but extended down in the middle to the tunnel. So long as its got enough foam under the covering to make it 5mm rad it will be OK wont it ? ? ?

It's only 5mm radius if the foam is quite firm and you can't feel the edge underneath if you press hard. Otherwise it's 19mm radius, despite the foam.
(and my SVA tester did press the foam hard!)

its the old big steering wheel trick then,i'm sure i'll be corrected if i'm wrong but i think its 130mm from outside edge of the steering wheel.
Everything behind that is exempt

Leave all the wiper gear in under the scuttle, and the switch. It's the screen they are checking for, the heater does not need to work without the screen either, they don't care less if you freeze!

The callous b@rstuds. In that case I don't care if their goldfish dies. I would be tempted to remove the wiper switch in case the tester is a bit keen and wants proof it works. If the motor is well out of the way it should be alright.
