Do I need to write to DVLA for a VIN or can I still make my own up?

Also the VIN plates I have seen for sale do not appear to be simple, they have boxes for weights etc.

Does anyone know where I can get a simple one that contains just manufacturer and VIN and nothing else, failing that I will try and make one up.

Thanks in advance.

You have to get a DVLA assigned one now, you are not allowed to make it up any more. I put a VIN number on my chassis when you were allowed to make it up and then they made me put a DVLA assigned one a few months ago.

You need to call the DVLA and ask for the MASET team.

They will sent you a VIN number a V55/5 and V627/1 along with a letter you need to get signed/stamped by a garage to say that the VIN has been permanently marked on your chassis.

Hi Stot

I have the Vin, V55/5 and the letter that needs to be stamped I seem to be missing the V627/1 (what is this) and the Vin plate itself, I will give them a call

Sorry for hijacking someone else's thread

The V627/1 is the Built up Vehicle Report. You can download and print that one if you need to.

I got my manufacturer plate from ENGRAVED TROPHY AWARD PLAQUE PLATE PICTURE FILMCELLS MANY SIZES &' STYLES it was the 89x38mm one and cost £2.60
I just put my make and the vin on it no other wording and it was fine.
