IVA front indicator question.
ctwv50 - 10/2/15 at 11:25 PM

I'm just wondering how they measure the front indicators meet the 400mm to side positional requirement with regard to the rear arches. Mine are just within the minimum distance, I think, but I'm struggling to get an accurate measurement. Cheers

Measure the width of the rear arches, note the centre point. Transfer that distance to the front, lining centre of measurement with centre of nose or bonnet.

Measure across rear arches.
Measure distance across indicators.
Take one from the other and divide by two.

i.e.
lets say 1800mm across arches
lets say 1000mm across indicators
___________________
equals 800mm

divide by 2 = 400mm

They measure from the edge of the reflector, not the centre of the bulb - it can give you a precious few cm's!

measured mine across the front wings

Ok so i measured the rear tub plus the 2 rear wings 1125mm + (2x300mm) =1725mm
Deducted the c/c indicator measurement from this which was 855mm and the diameter of one of the indicators 68mm
1725-855-68=802mm

Divided by two

802/2=401mm

Close enough? They're caterham style front indicators under the headlights. Wish I'd fitted the body before making the headlight brackets. Doh!

Do they actually take all these measurements and calculate it? Or do they have a special contraption? To measure it?

On mine he just went round with a tape measure in a rather cursory manner (didn't actually measure, just sort of held it up in a "close enough" kind of way), though they were well in so he was probably happy without needing to measure carefully. If it's tight, I guess they will measure properly but I'm not sure what they'll use. Something like a large set square I'd imagine.

1mm out sounds to be well within the margin for error, I guess it might depend how nice they're feeling on the day...

Ok thanks for that. Im sure i could get them a mm further out if they insisted.

Pack them out with washers! You'll kick yourself if he fails them!
