Mesh bonnet

Would it be considered okay to use a bonnet made of a metal frame with sturdy wire/mesh over it? Any sharp edges/moving belts etc would be covered. There are plenty of threads on the internet about running with no bonnet, but can't find anything about a mesh one.

Oh dear, I must be getting old, looks ridiculous to me. I can see the smile value but that comedy rat look is lost on me. I would want something I could drive after that much time and effect.

Other than rain and aerodynamics I can't see a problem with a mesh bonnet.

You don't make it clear whether you're talking legally, practically, IVA or what.

With regard to legal issues &/or IVA I can't see any problem providing the structure of the mesh itself doesn't present any sharp edges & is sufficiently sturdy.

On a practical basis, it will not be beneficial with regard to aero, might create some interesting vortices around the engine bay/cockpit crossover area, may even whistle at certain speeds! & obviously anything susceptible to the elements would need additional protection

I guess the main question would be why? What is it you are trying to achieve?

Legally, posted in IVA/Legal section. Could have made that clearer

It's purely to suit the kind of look I'm after. I'd love to run without one at all but mesh could be a workable alternative
