Fuel lines inside car???
NS Dev - 17/12/04 at 10:50 PM

Sounds like a really sill question, but is there anything in the SVA manual that says that you can't route fuel lines "inside" the car? I ask only because this is how it's always done on rally cars and the like, and is actually safer as they can't get damaged by flying bits etc. They do have to be "double covered" to meet RACMSA requirements but braided hoses meet these requirements (liner + braiding)

When you say inside, do you mean in the transmission tunnel? This is where mine are (though not been tested yet). I assumed they were supposed to go there.

Anyone else?

I would think that would depend on whether you have a passenger or not and can route the pipeline down that side of the car. Looking at the car (if its book) the only logical place to put the fuel lines is down the inside of the tranny tunnel, I guess you could place them on the outside of the tunnel, but the SVA is all about safety, so I doubt they would be too impressed with an exposed fuel line within the cockpit area, regardless if it was double lined.

This is just my personal opinion, and couldn't really tell you what mr SVA would say.

Why, I don't know..... Damn cider.....

Dont take this as gospel, I DONT KNOW the legal / construction rules / laws.

My opinion is that I would not do it.
IF I did, then I would box them in with a permanant Ally cover, so they are not directly adjacent to anyone in the car.
ie they have a separate "trunking" in which they run.

It seems a LOT of effort for not a lot of gain.
I have put mine in the tranny tunnel, its easier, and fairly well protected.

DO NOT run them adjacent to electrical wiring as I believe this is a SVA fail point.

Brakes and wiring together I think is OK.
Brakes and fuel is OK as well.
But NOT wiring and fuel. (ie so close they can rub - give them a separation between them)
BUT CHECK FIRST.

If in ANY DOUBT, either consult the SVA Manual, or give them a ring. After all they can only tell you to go away, but somehow, I doubt they would do that.
If you get a difficult SVA officer, ring another depot!

thanks for the replies. My only worry is that there isn't very much room in the transmission tunnel at all!! I think once the gearbox is mounted properly I should be able to suss the routing out a bit better, but with the rear loom, fuel supply line, fuel return line and brake line and handbrake cables, plus the propshaft and gearshift extension, it's getting a bit busy in there!!
