Hi....
I'm potentially embarking on a new project that will have a rover v8...what's the collective thoughts on getting these engines through iva.
Is it possible on carbs, or is injection a must. The block is new, but has older heads, so my thoughts are I cannot go the pre 92 route.
General views / pitfalls?
Any input appreciated.
Paul.

As far as I am aware unless the block is stamped with a pre 1995 code and you have a letter from the manufacturer confirming age then I am affraid it
is injection and cats. There is a guy on here that has put a bike injection ms kit on his v8 recently (yellow mk iirc) may be worth a search.
Edit, found it and it was a quantum extreme. http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=192173
Quick wiki shows they were made up until 2006.
Is this a brand new block I.e. Made recently or just one made a long time ago that has not been used, does it have a code/date stamp on it?

Cheers....its a new block, and buy new I mean purchased in 2005 and never used....Quite honestly, if I take on the project, I may mean getting rid of the sylva, and I would rather inject anyway as that the most enjoyable part of the build for me...so don't really mind....no stamps on it (apparently), but does have the bill for purchase.
Must be interesting to get rid of the sylva. Worth having a look at the canems ecu, lloyd developments seem to have done a few coversions on injected
tvrs. (looks like a packages ms but reasonable price).

These look intersting if you want to keep the holley/weber four barrel look

My xtreme was already on the road with the pre rules on a carb, so I just converted. Can't see why it wouldn't pass tho with cats.
I have what is potentially an old block and heads, - filthy that I used as a sizing exercise, was sold to me for 200quid as a runner from a auto range
rover.
I've got to get it out of the way, so if you want it for 50quid, assuming it is old enough you are welcome.
I see you are in southhampton, wouldn't be too bad a drive up to collect if from me in New Malden KT3.
let me know if you are interested.
Thanks for the response gents..
Chris, I actually have a spare engine, but to be honest, I would like to get it through the IVA with the actual engine. I've been reading up on
fuel injecting the V8's and it doesn't really sound any worse than previous cars I've done.....We shall see!!.
cool, I would agree, efi ing it in principle isn't too hard, once you know the general idea.
As you've probably seen I went for something different and put on the bike TBs and 8 LS2 coils. Under the xtreme hood the rv8 inlet manifold
setup, even converted to all be inline wouldn't have fitted nicely at all, plus the bike TBs make a much better noise!
shout if I can be of any help.
Great...thanks Chris....
The project in question is a westfield SEight....It's a standard Seight chassis with the vented bonnet, so should all fit, I like the V8
developments carbon plenum....Eventually I would like to go to ITB's (as I've done on previous cars). Canems ecu seems reasonable. What
inlet manifold did you use?.
I sent the TBs to bog bros who made them up from scratch.. that was a pricey bit ~650quid. 2 of everything.
I ended up with about 15 more hp and a bit more torque than the holly carb, but way way better mpg .
the xtreme wasn't really designed to fit a v8, it is bigger than a standard 7esq car, but not much much.
