Hi which is the best vin plate to fit to a self build 7 to pass iva ?

I engraved the VIN using my dremel and a diamond tip bit onto a cross strut on the drivers side of the engine bay.

For the manufacturers plate, I used a simple rectangular piece of 3mm ally then punched the manufactures name followed by the VIN underneath.

Simple, cost effective and passed IVA with this.

Make sure you follow the rules stipulated by the manual in regards to letter height and spacing. The manual is your friend.

I had a trophy engraver to make me a plate up only cost few pounds looks the biz, plenty on eBay offering the service.

I looked at ebay and found several that fitted the bill, looked on the web and found several which said they did a suitable product BUT they didn't. Eventually went to a local shop that did shoe repairs and trophy engraving and they made me a nice plate with, manufacturer name (me), VIN No, N/A - can't remember what that field should be but its in the IVA manual, front axle max weight, rear axle and GVW. Did it in 30 mins and it cost £7 which I was happy with.

Bear in mind that the chassis VIN has to be part of the chassis itself.
That means that if using a plate, has to be seam welded to a permanent part of the chassis, otherwise engraved on the chassis itself.

The manufacturer plate can just be attached with rivets or similar

use a manufacturer plate with as little information as possible, I think just manufacturer (maybe your name) and vin are required. **
but also ensure you have a good vin, get it from dvla k&r. (kits and rebuilds) (and yes this needs to stamped on the chassis too)

having just checked the iva manual, axle weights may also be reqiured
