If I was to buy a Focus, say a cheapo ST mk1, use the engine, but switch it to rear wheel drive with an MT75 and a sierra rear axle, Escort Mk1/2
front struts/cross member anti roll bar, where would I stand with IVA/registration etc ?
It's just in my head at present, but wouldn't want to get into it and find it was out of the question..........
As the body is the chassis and you would need to modify it, you would need IVA and go through the "radically altered vehicle" route for reg
if you wanted it on the road..

Remember seeing a US conversion in CCC years back where there was minimal mods to the floorpan / chassis.
I'm sure it can be done, but it does sound like it would require some skilled fabrication work (body shell mods). I've seen a Peugeot 205 fitted with Cosworth 4x4 running gear. It was well executed, but I didn't get a chance to ask the owner re: legal implications.

As said, you've butchered the 'chassis' so it needs an IVA. Loads of folks make such alterations and never chase the paperwork to suit but that's much the same as building a kit car and screwing the number plates off a Sierra onto it......it's wrong but folks do it. If you meet the wrong copper, VOSA/DVLA staff or need to have an insurance inspection, you're driving an unregistered, untaxed, uninsured, un-MoT'd vehicle. Your choice.
There was one on pistonheads not long ago. Looked like they had done a decent enough job of it too. Wasn't dear either, around the £2000 mark if
my memory serves me correctly. Though my memory isn't what it used to be.
