I have just bought my Sierra and the tax runs out the end of Jan, what do I need to do to declare it off road and where do I get the forms.

Thanks.

Any post office take photo copy before sending any docs off --- it takes weeks/months to get official confirmation.

Download form available from DVLA website and send it off in post.

If you have reminder for tax, theres a code number on it. Go to DVLA website and do it there, simple took me 5 minutes!

I wrongly assumed that a SORN declaration was valid until I declared otherwise, not for 12 months.
I have just been stung for a £40 fine.

If I want to keep the Reg number, I suppose I shall have to keep renewing the SORN until the car is built (could turn out to be expensive in fines). The only other option appears to be to declare as scrap.

How do I delete the 'attachment' which isn't?

AFAIK you cant. Of course you could edit your post, copy the text, delete the post, then re-post it....if you can be bothered.

If you want to keep the age related reg number you have to keep the car SORN. If you scrap it AFAIK you will end up with a Q plate, which isnt all that bad i dont suppose.

Cheers,
David

You could in "in theory" say you sent the SORN off in the post on xxxxx date and it looks like it must have been lost on the way.

Worked for me once when my SORN got "Lost in the post"

I then thought I can't be doing with this so scrapped the car so it wouldn't "get lost" again.

I do mine at the post office as its the only way to be absolutely sure, and have proof. They are very quick to send out fixed penalties. I know 2 people who have been fined, both sent it in the post.
