Has anyone had any success (or lack of success) passing an IVA with a laser cut/engraved acrylic manufactures plate?

cant see any reason why that would be a problem.

I was told that one of the reasons for having a metal plate was so that the car could be identified after a fire. The same reason why the number has to be stamped or engraved elsewhere on the chassis. Also, the IVA bod might decide that the plate could easily be ripped off and replaced.

However, this might be a load of old cobblers - I suggest that you check with an official source!

The manual specifically mentions plastic being acceptable.

Manufacturer’s Plate A piece of durable material e.g. metal or plastic that is likely to last the life of the vehicle and which is permanently marked with the required markings.

the modern ford manufacturers plates seem to be a tough sticker on the a/b/c post

Thanks for the advice. Here is my proposed design (red=cut, blue=engrave):



Manufacturer is EVANS, model is ROADSTER
VIN number displayed below
All in a rectangle, letters are 4mm high
My logo off to the LHS (my initials JDE arranged on an isometric cube)
Holes for pop-rivets, and I'll bond it on too.

Is this likely to pass? Thanks!

it would probably pass, however, the manual just has manufacturer, explicitly not model.
also the rest of the paperwork will have to refer to evans as the manufacturer.

I would consider making up a very basic one without the logo for IVA.

also i would be careful pop riveting acrylic as it would maybe crack around the holes, try a test piece first
