car man - 5/5/17 at 02:30 PM

hi what are you paying in road tax for your kit car. DVLA have told me £240 for a 1800 cc kit car.??

HowardB - 5/5/17 at 02:31 PM

same, although I only buy 6m at a time

SJ - 5/5/17 at 02:44 PM

For me it works out as about a pound a mile some years.

theduck - 5/5/17 at 02:54 PM

That's correct. Kit cars are based on the old capacity rules of upto 1549cc and above 1549cc

Though thats your fault, not the tax mans. Think mine's under 4p/mile.

David Jenkins - 5/5/17 at 03:36 PM

I pay mine monthly by direct debit - I don't think there's any additional cost (or if there is, it's very small). It makes paying it a little less painful.

Note: I think I pay about £5 or £6 extra p.a., which I can live with.

I wasn't blaming anyone, just pointing out it is the biggest single cost of keeping my car on the road.

car man, Were you thinking that was high, low or just that you didn't know what it should be?

SJ, I was just implying that you need to use it more.

morcus - 6/5/17 at 08:58 AM

If you registered a kit now with a new registration would you be on the old capacity based Tax or the flat £140 for sub £40K normal cars?

https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables/rates-for-cars-and-light-goods-vehicles-registered-before-1-march-2001

Gov says it should be £150 for a sub 1549cc engine on the pre-2001.
