Is this chassis plate ok?

I'm getting my chassis plate made from carbon fibre with engraved and enamelled inlay.

I knocked this up, but just want to check if the collective agree it is legal. I can't see anywhere in the IVA manual that says I can't have an image on there

That will look super on the bulkhead Steven.

You will also have to stamp/engrave the chassis, or stamp/engrave a plate and weld it to the chassis.

Yes, it's for the bulkhead one. I already have the chassis engraved.

I've found a company that will make them in carbon for Ł20 which seems great value

Hi

Have a look at the IVA inspection manual section 18 Statutory Plates.

On my plate the IVA inspector wanted to see the following
Make
Model
Vin No
Gross (weight)
Axle-1 (weight)
Axle-2 (weight)

I used one of these Vin-plate.co.uk , originally i put the engine number on the plate but that failed the iva.

Just make model and VIN on mine and that's just passed

A few people on here have failed IVA for having too much information on the VIN plate
Passed in 2013 with this:

It does not have all the statutory information as others have said.

What doesn't it have?

IVA manual says this is the order of what goes on the plate. approval/build stage number isn't applicable and note 2 says masses aren't required to be on the plate.

DVSA MOTOR INC Name of manufacturer
e1*2007/46*0291*02 Approval No. and/or Build Stage No.
3GPG918009BS51312 Vehicle Identification Number
1500 kg Maximum permitted laden mass of vehicle
2500 kg Maximum permitted laden mass for the
combination where the vehicle is used for
towing
1 – 730 kg Maximum permitted laden road mass for
2 – 810 kg each axle, listed in order from front to rear

That just leaves name of manufacturer and VIN.

yep, that is all you need, but should be in a marked box (often the plate itself),
but you can put other information/graphics outside of the box

edit, note, the manufacturers name should be what you put on the registration document

As stated, the only thing required is Manufacturers Name and the VIN. All others listed are voluntary

I'm also not aware of anywhere that states it needs to be 'in a box'.

I have done this break down of the requirements in an order that makes more sense and groups requirements for the VIN, plate and stamp.

All plate(s) must be indelibly marked with the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) which matches the number marked into the vehicle structure and is displayed in the correct order inside a clearly marked rectangle. (See below and Notes 1, 2 & 5).

I think this design should meet the regulations, though it does have make and model, and the word 'vin' is superfluous
