What to take to IVA Test
mikeb - 28/3/18 at 06:43 PM

As in the title.

What do I need to take with me officially, documents? build photo's and then unofficially tools, cable ties etc.
Haven't really got any information with my booking so assuming I can just rock up with the car and proof of engine age and some build pictures and receipts?

Thanks

Mike

I’m taking everything I sent in the application (plus laptop with 300 odd other pictures) and filling the car boot.

Tools (all of them)
Battery drill & bits
rivets and gun
cable ties
spare edge trim & nut covers
insulation tape, loom tape
brake fluid
Washers,nuts,bolts
soldering iron & wire
tape measure
jack and axle stands

and i’m sure i’ll think of more

I agree - take everything you can carry - I've gone through IVA twice and both times needed things - on one occasion even visiting a very local spares shop to get something I had not taken without which my car would have failed. If you take it you may not need it but if you don't you most certainly will need it!

add:
full tank of fuel
fire extinguisher
and a little bit of luck

As above, I took all of that stuff. As luck would have it I didn't use any of it, except the luck.

took tools, receipts and engine age proof (which they would except)

all they asked for was the engine age proof as the remainder had already been sent to them.

However, every single inspector and centre do things very differently, as i have found out, so be prepared as you dont know who the hell will be doing the inspection!

Another good tip, is take a bag of sweets and offer them out, they like that!

just dont argue with them as you wont get anywhere and they will stand their ground i can assure you!

You will be fine, just go for it!

Take everything you can, probably won't use 99% of it but you wouldn't want to fail just because you didn't take a certain bag of washers with you.

Only things I can think to add from the above list are:
- electrical fittings, crimps grommets etc
- spare bulbs
- spare fuses
- make sure fuel tank is full
- locktite threadlock

Also make sure your brake calipers and seat belt bolts are threadlock in with plenty oozing out so it's obvious!

Can't really add anything to the above as its all been covered. Good luck and hope it all goes well.

SVA for my MK Indy I took the following:

1. Screwdrivers
2. Hammer
3. Spanners
4. Loom tape
5. Folder full of receipts, build photos, engine age letter from Ford etc.

It failed on some interior edges first time, which I had to buy trim for and fix at home ahead of a re-test. TBH I didn't have trim to take with me to the test and wouldn't have had the time to do so either.

Best of luck and hopefully you'll be on the road for the summer!

Thanks all, fingers crossed. I'm going with an open mind, and fully expecting a retest but trying to cover all bases for a pass!
