is a rear view mirror mandatory for the sva if you have two wing mirrors fitted.i drive a van at work and it has two door mirrors fitted, it also has a bulk head fitted behind the drivers seat so your field of vision is obstructed, it has no rear view mirror fitted, and its a white van !!!!!!

Sure it's come up before and AFAK providing you've got two wing mirror (on different sides of the car ) you'll be alright. Our work van's the same, white too.

I believe that a centre rear view mirror is needed unless you cannot see behind you (eg. vans).

Yep. I believe the only exception (perhaps now done away with) is if you don't have a rollbar and the mirrors give you a perfect unobstructed view of behind you (i.e. no blindspots)

Conversely, I think that if the rollbar were to be made "solid" then a rear view mirror is unnecessary as there's nothing to look through. Bit OTT to avoid glueing a mirror to your screen if you ask me, though

you do need 3 mirrors unless there is something to obscure the interior mirrors veiw

I'll just keep quiet then.

I asked the SVA man well before my test - you do need a centre mirror. I pointed out that all I'd see was shoulders or the roll bar, but that didn't matter.
The only time you don't need one is if there's a solid partition behind you.

David

Sportscar mirror mounted on the scuttle.

I was told by SVA teater that you must have a centre mirror and an offside mirror. You must see I think 90% out of offsde mirror (ie the top of the wheel arch....so mount it high)
The centre mirror should see 60% (if I remember right). Mine didnt as my shoulder was in the way. If this is the case they ignore this mirror and move on to the nearside mirror if fitted. The same now applies as the offside.
All markers should be visible using one or both.
I asked did you have to have a centre one and was told you have to.

One of the vans I recently bought has blanked off rear windows but still was supplied with a centre mirror.
