Existing V5 registration documents or 'log books' will be invalid from July 1 2005 to be replaced by the new V5C.
But while V5s wil become invalid, resoters will not lose their cars' original numberplates.
Drivers will get a new registration certificate automatically when they renew their vehicle tax or make a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN).
But if your vehicle is off-road being restored - or is exempt from car tax - you will need to send the old V5 to the DVLA with a letter requesting a new certificate.
You can request the return of the log book in your covering letter to the DVLA.
It is probably worth all of you with SORN'd doner cars getting the document updated to make the registration process easier.
I just changed the address on one by sending it off with my Dad's address, came back with a new form. In a month or two I will send it off again
to transfer back to my address.
That waythe DVLA can't sell my number plate.
