Bonnet Projections
flak monkey - 29/5/05 at 01:02 PM

What are the rules like for these now? I will probably be either sticking with the standard pinto carb, or fitting a 38DGAS in my car. (due to lack of funds allowing DCOEs or dellortos yet). This means that the air filter will probably stick out through the bonnet. Is this a problem, or not?

Cheers,
David

The only problems with air filters and SVA i've heard of are

1 the nuts on top not being sufficiently radiused.

2 The edge between the plates and the mesh/flitre. To which one persons solution was a band of perferated rubber IIRC around the out side of the filtre for SVA.

Got a Pipercross foam filter for sale if you're interested. Used for 100 miles (for SVA). Swopped for K&N. £20

Thanks gents. And thanks very much for the offer Marcus. The one I have my eye on has a K&N filter with it.

Cheers,
David

Do you need to cut a hole?
If i take the filter off my DGAS the bonnet just clears it. Im thinking of making up a temporary filter using a face mask for SVA. Later i can cut the hole and fit proper filter or decide to go for side draughts / bike carbs etc. This way there will be no projections for SVA and no redundant holes if i change the carb.

Just a thought. Filter wont be as important if you limit its use and be careful about not driving in a dusty environment. Basic filter will stop the big stuff getting in.
