i think i may have a fail point for the sva regarding my wiring!!

i have attached my loom using spiral binding around the wiring (it does have gaps so you can see the wire), and the attached it to the car using rivetted cable tie bases and cable ties. where i have placed a cable tie around the wires i have also wrapped some insulation tape around to stop the cable tie working its way into the loom.

It is securely tied down - but is this a fail point???? should i be putting it all in split tubing??

Sounds like it should be fine to me....

AFAIK spiral wrap and split convoluted tubing are both ok.

It just needs to be securely fixed, and joints suitably protected from the elements.

As Flak says - sounds ok to me too. Some don't go that far and pass!

Mine's entirely spiral-wrapped, and it passed OK.

What really worries them are (in no particular order):

1. wires that are flapping around
2. wires too close to hot bits
3. wires that could rub against something
4. wires too close to the petrol pipe
5. bare wires
6. unsupported wires likely to vibrate and fracture

In other words - common sense.

When I asked what they wanted re wiring they said it should be to the same sort of standard as a car driven off the production line of a mainstream maker. Sounds as if yours is well up to that. Well worth spending time on the wiring as i suspect it has the biggest impact on making the difference between a reliable and unreliable car, and after seeing a f/glass car go up could save your life!
