as title, the guy from the dvla is coming out on wednesday morning for my build inspection.
i don't have the V5 or reg or mileage of the donor car as the guy i bought the part built kit off had decided this was not needed
i'm not too bothered if it goes on a Q plate (i'm convinced there is no other way!) but what numbers is the guy going to need to get at?
engine number is easy enough to find but will he need numbers off the transmission? g/box, diff etc? i've already fitted my interior panels so
they may be difficult to get but i can remove them if needs be?
thanks once again for help in advance!
Had to take my car to Peterborough DVLA, all they checked on the car was the engine number and the chassis number, show them all your reciepts as well to be on safe side . Suspect things may vary with each local DVLA centers?,
My local VLO inspector is coming tomorrow to check the car. In advance, I asked him if there was a problem as he will find it nigh on impossible to
photo the eng no 'cos of access. He said it's OK as long as he can see it. Re the g/box & diff, I've explained I can jack it up one
side for him to easily see the tags; he didn't seem too bothered about them. I'll report tomorrow (as mentioned, all VLO offices seem to
differ on some things!)

Is it necessary to have someone come out and have a look?
Depends on the DVLA man and local policy!
In my case, the man came out, checked the VIN and engine numbers, and leafed through the 3" stack of receipts I gave him (I pointed out the ones
for the engine, gearbox & chassis materials).
He spent 5 minutes doing his work, noted a few details on his forms, then chatted to me for 30 minutes more! One of the rare good guys, I think.

Peterborough DVLA insisted that I take the car to them It seems to vary between local DVLA centers
you know how ppl say when police officers start looking younger it means you are getting older, does that apply with dvla inspectors too?! i swear he
was younger than me and i'm only 23!!!!!
well basicly it was pretty painless, once we determined there was no way i could avoid a Q plate (already knew that due to lack of log
book/registration from donor car) it was just a case of taking down the engine number and he asked all of about 3 question.
very helpfull guy, showed me how to fill out the registration docs even though i'm not going to need them until after the sva and he's
sending out everything i need to apply for test.
time now to get the car back together and put the finishing touches in for test.
Same experience as me - if you get a good inspector (rather than a jobsworth) then the whole thing is less of a battle.

Can't see my engine number, must have been taken off when it was decked at some point, guess I'm in trouble then , maybe I'll try
to get another x/flow for the number

At least my inspector was pretty as well as friendly , even if she forgot to put a stamp or frank the envelope with my tax disc etc . Had to wait a week for it to arrive AND pay to get it
Have a look down on one of the gearbox mounting lugs - some of the better engine shops will re-stamp the number down there.

Deckman, i have the same problem as you. When i explained this to the local DVLA man he said it doesnt matter, it happens sometimes when people rebuild an engine and use parts from different engines. He said as the original number has little relevance to the resulting engine i wouldnt need an engine number to register my car. You just need one for SVA to prove the date of manufacture, but i have spoken to my local SVA man and found a way round that.
