Top Speed? & Power
coovey - 16/7/05 at 11:23 PM

I'm filling the SVA form in and have come to top speed.

I am building a Luego Velocity XT with a 2.0 Pinto Twin 40's

Any recomendations on top speed and also how can i tell that my tyres comply?

Also when i bought the egine i was told it produced 103BPH at the wheels at 6000rpm. Is that a sensible figure to put on the form and do i have to prove it?

Thanks

103bhp at the wheels sounds a touch on the low side to me, but it may be right. I'd go for a top speed of around 120-130. During the SVA test they get you to rev the engine to 2/3rds the revs which produce peak power in order to test noise. To give yourself the best chance of passing put your peak power revs as low as possible. I think a standard pinto peaks at about 5200rpm, yours will be a bit higher but I'm sure you could get away with putting 5500.

Good luck with the SVA

I'd go for a top speed which is below the rating for your tyres!

If you put down 130 mph and your tyres are only rated at 125 mph then you will fail!

Agree with pete on the engine revs thing.

Put your top speed as 100mph and your revs as 6000. They'll noise test a pinto at 4000rpm as they are familiar with the engine.

You've got to be careful on this, they can use the figures you give them in 2 ways if i remember what mr sva man said.

I can't remember the exact rules but it concerened the 2/3 rds bit.

It was either 2/3rds the peak revs or something to do with the quoted top speed or along those lines. If it would of been the other way to work out the allowed peak figures then we would not of passed.

I'll rack my brains some more.

Cheers guys, turns out my tyres are rated to 150mph.

Seems to make sense about the 6000rpm as the pinto is fairly popular and i'm sure like you say they are familiar with it
