Is SVA Required?
locoboy - 24/8/05 at 12:58 PM

Looking at this for a mate and dont know if SVA is required or not. It does not use the Beetle chassis but looks like it uses a fair few of the major components.

thanks

I would say so

Looks like a lot of work for SVA, too many sharp edges.

if it had been completed and registared before sva it would be ok but now i would have thought that i would have to comply. I have only seen one on the road before.

I would say sva is needed as it doesnt use the original chassis.. Looks like a lot of fun when its done!! My mates got a beetle with a 2 litre big boys engine in which goes like Hell. Put one in that even better!!

I have seen somewhere on either the DVLA or VOSA site where is states what does and does not need an SVA but im buggered if i can find it!

I wanted to make sure before he bought himself a whole pile of headaches!

Try this link http://www.totalkitcar.com/tech_registration.php

They seem to explain it all quite well

Taking the Beetle as a base - if something uses the complete floorpan/chassis of the Beetle it doesn't need an SVA, if the chassis is altered in anyway (for example, shortened, as many beach buggy's require) then it needs an SVA.

Does the date that the build was started affect the need for an SVA ?

Of corse you would need to prove the strat date ?

It doesn't use the original chassis, therefore it WILL need to be SVA'd.

My Locost is based on a Ford Escort but it doesn't use any of the chassis, therefore it needed SVA'ing.

Hope that clears it up
