Build up inspection
DarrenW - 7/9/05 at 03:33 PM

Great news. I sent a letter to local DVLA office yesterday. The inspector (Kelly) called me today. Chassis number i made up is acceptable. Inspection booked for 19th September. She couldnt have been more helpful so far and will be explaining the forms etc when she arrives.

I was even told that log book for donor car suffices as a receipt and it isnt a problem that the engine numbers are different (donor had engine swap that wasnt recorded).

I have followed advice on this forum so far so thanks to everyone for that. Im looking forward to a pain free registration process now.

Just need to get the engine number fixed solidly to chassis now (ok to stamp a plate and weld this to chassis, stamp size not important).

Which DVLA centre are you using? Gosforth?

My SVA is booked for Monday 12th at Newcastle.

It's ok to stamp an plate and rivet it to Chassis in most cases.

Im using Gosforth SVA and Stockton DVLA.

She wont let me rivet it on, has to be welded.
I wish i was free on Monday to have a look up with you. I might have to invite you down for a free coffee so we can have a chat after your test!!!!! Gosforth are supposed to be strict but fair. One of my neighbours had a bad do but i think that was down to their attitude and the way the car was built (didnt refer to manual during build = loads of fail points). Another neighbour passed first time (Westfield). They have apparently passed a Robin Hood first time as well.

Mine passed at Gosforth

The guy gave me time to fix minor faults and i drove away with a pass

said it was only the second time he'd passed a kit car first time tho

Good luck

Cheers

Stockton DVLA wanted 24 hours to look at my paperwork and check invoices etc.

A bit painful but we got there in the end

Cheers

Well I've got my test on Monday, but I booked the Friday off as well for the (almost inevitable) re-test. I'm off on the 19th too just in case it takes three attempts, or I decide to try to register at Gosforth.

Darren, if I pass, I'll come down. If you want a hand on the 19th I might be able to get over, once I've dropped the little 'un off at his first day at school.

Thanks Mike,
Ill be Ok on 19th, She's just going to check chassis number and invoices and explain the forms to me. This way when i go to Stockton after SVA i shouldnt have the same hassle as Mark as i just have to finalise the process with MAC and Ins certs (thats the theory anyway!).
You are welcome to call in anytime though. Id welcome a visit while you are fresh from Gosforth (i only build on evenings though so i can balance family life with hobby life)

Youve taken 3 days off!!!! I can understand 2 of them but ill put money on that the 3rd will be out for a spin.

Just to report on my progress.

Nice lady from Stockton came out to see me yesterday. Confirmed my made up chassis number was OK. Confirmed the car was made from new kit and displayed correct ID marks. Confirmed no MOT for 3 years following SVA pass. Confirmed i will get age related plate and that donor V5 was the reciept (my actual engine isnt recorded on donor V5 but this apparently isnt so important) Went through both forms and explained fully how to fill them in. Build up inspection is now completed. After SVA i have to drop off all of the docs and they will send me the paperwork i need within 2 days to allow me to get plates made up.

So far it has been very very easy. All started by writing a letter direct to the local office and getting their expert to call me.
