Data Tagging / micro dots
DarrenW - 26/9/05 at 03:13 PM

Has anyone used any of that special paint stuff on their cars that has the special ultraviolet coding stuff in it? Where can i buy some or is it only available through the police? How much is it?
being stingy im looking for a robust cheap method of making it a pain for thieves to spot several ID marks whilst having them recoreded etc.

Cheers,
Darren.

My lad's done his scooter with it, the cheapest he could find was on Ebay. The kit he got come with a stencil to mark parts with as well.

Hi Darren,

I think bike shops sell a product called Alpha Dots, or Google, and you'll get their web site.

Ive heard there are a few trade names and some with annual subscriptions. What is the best all round solution?

Mmmmm, Very witty.

The downside of these systems is that the police, that are supposed to have the machine to read them,
have only 1 per county, or that's the case in suffolk. Then they can never find it.

The best (IMHO) is Data-tag, but I'm not sure if they will do cars.
Only charge, after buying it in the first place, is a transfer charge if you sell the bike, (I think).

http://www.mightydotdistribution.co.uk/mighty_dot_specification.htm

a website for data dots printed with your choice of text and application method

or you can buy a UV pen for about £15 for a really good one and write whatever you like wherever you like

yip data-tag is the one i would go for as well, your get 12 sticky stencils 4 transponders ,2 stickers and a little tub of data dots, the same as alpha dots,a little tub of etching compound for the mirrors and a tube of blue crap for the stencils,,1 word of warning if you buy this kit,,do not get any of the blue stuff anywhere apart from over the stencil especially on light coloured body panels (it is a bitch to get out .on painted parts it would need a respray)

dont leave the sticky stencil on to long either other wise the blue compound melts its way through it
