Sabelt bolt length
donut - 21/10/05 at 10:48 AM

I have just received my Sabelt 4 point harneses (YAY!) and was looking at the bolts that come with it. They are 35mm long of which 22mm will be in the threaded fixing on my Indy.

Are these going to be long enough for Mr SVA man. I think they were ok for my last car but things may have changed since then.

Many thanks

Hi

Mine passed ok, the tester only checked that they are the corrrect grade 8.8.

My tester also checked that they went a decent length into the fixing - for the lower fixings, that the bolt went right through and showed some threads on the other side (they can be seen from underneath on my car), and for the top fixings, that the welded-in insert was of sufficient size to hold the bolt for a decent length (in my case, the insert was fully threaded, so the whole bolt was engaged).

Mind you, he didn't actually check the last point! But he did ask how the insert was welded into the roll-bar, and I was able to show him due to the slight grind marks on the top.

rgds,
David

Can you get really long bolts for these (not eyes), say 200mm?

Yeah i'm sure you can. Theres a nut and bolt shop that advertise in the kit car mags. They are near Brighton.

Mine were standard Andy and Mitcham were fine with it.

One thing he did do was ask if I had a pic showing the lower chassis seatbelt mount points without the trim on. I had the laptop with me so fired it up and showed him a pic of the bare chassis and he was fine with it. I think if I hadn't had the pic I may have had to remove the seat.

I don't think it will be a problem in yours as IIRR the seat is quite thin and you can see the side mounts.

Rich.

Glad you got the harnesses. I'd be surprised if the SVA inspector has any issues with the installation as the whole lot (belts & bolts) has been tested and is EEC approved.

I have taken pics too so should'nt have a problem. Cheers

Steve: Harnesses are superb, thank you!!

make sure you tell all your owner's club friends where to get their harnesses and stuff!
