DVLA Vehicle Inspection - Update

Following the inspection of my car at Northampton DVLA in mid September, I received notification of my chassis number on Friday. Spoke to DVLA Northampton today and they have confirmed that I will be issued with an age related plate when I get round to registering it.
They accepted it was a new chassis after I supplied receipts for the materials, a photographic record of the chassis fabrication and a set of plans for the chassis, although it was referred to Swansea for a definitive ruling.

I'm pretty pleased with the outcome.

I take it you passed then? Well done. Nice looking car that. Go on then what's it like to drive? Particularly interested cos mine has same engine and axle.It would have the same front hubs and uprights as well if anyone would sell me any.

But........don't count your chickens yet.. had similar situation..given chassis number and lots of assurances about age related plate, but when i went to DVLA office armed with SVA pass, they idiot in charge went... hmmm looks like I'm gona have to give you a Q plate... and after approx an hour of arguing, he gave in.

No, unfortunately not SVA'd yet, but I had to get it inspected to get a chassis number issued. The age related plate issue came up during the inspection. The car is close to being finished and I have driven it. It is quicker than I thought it would be although it may be that it feels quicker than it actually is because it's so low.

I'm was planning on having my chassis powder coated next week but just thought that I don't have a chassis number and it needs to be welded in not rivited so I need to get this sorted asap.

What's the procedure?

Just contact you local LVO, and they will give you a chassis number, some may even let you make up your own, but not mine!

Forgive my ignorance, what's and LVO and how do I get their phone number?

You want your local DVLA office. Have a look here for some idea of what you need. I think there's a faq on it. It's on this page and there's a link to VOSA as well.

I had my inspection done a while ago at home. Used my own chassis number. They did say that part of the inspection was to see that the kit was actually almost a car and not just a pile of bits. If you are getting chassis powder coated soon at a rough guess id say you are not far enough on to have the inspection yet.
I had a plate made up and welded this on. Ill just overpaint it later. Some offices let you rivet the vin tags on, mine wouldnt.

In terms of procedure, this worked for me;
1. Website - find local office address,
2. Send letter explaining briefly what you are doing and what assistance you need.
3. The local area inspector called me next day - this is the valuable bit, you know have direct contact. Inspection appointment made.
4. Inspection day - very quick look at car. More interested in papaerwork. Inspector brought all forms out and went thro every Q so i knew how to complete. So far it really has been that simple. Have to say tho' that Stockton have been very very helpful. Also told me about no MOT for 3 years - ie they were clued up totally.
5. SVA
6. Take required docs to DVLA office, hand over to inspector. Reg number will be in next days post.
