Hi
I have been to Portsmouth DVLA to enquire about registration. They have offered me either a Q plate or a '55' reg if I can obtain proof
that the engine has been re-conditioned to as new.
I'd like to get the '55' plate but I'm concerned about the emissions come MOT time if I do this. Can anyone please advise me what
the position is on this.
Cheers,
Keith
What is the engine. If eg a 1987 2.0 Pinto then recon to as new surely means to same spec as when new in 1987 and hence emissions relevant to that
year.
How come they offered you 55 plate? Is everything else new inc driveshafts, gearbox, diff etc etc.
I asked about a Q but was told i could definetely have age related. Im surprised they didnt offer that option.
Might depend on the form that you completed - there's a V55/5 for age related and a V55/4 (I think thats the number) for Q or new plate.
Might have filled in the wrong form - just an idea.

I don't think it will make any difference to the emissions, just means the engine is as it was when new, for instance it's feasable that you
could have bought the engine new in say 1980 and taken that long to build the car, unlikely I know but possible.
Rich.
Q plate or 55 plate will make no difference with regards to emissions come MOT time.
