is the vehicle on sorn, or is it declared scrapped to the DVLA? if its on sorn, just send them a letter saying the car has been destroyed, and include the logbook. or stick it in the forsale section

Pete, I take it that you are building a kit car, as you state you used the Sierra as your donor vehicle (Move over Sherlock Holmes)

If you want your kit car to have an age related plate, you will need to keep your V5 for this process. Your local DVLA will then retain it. If however, you want a Q plate, then the correct thing to do, would be to scrap whats left of your donor vehicle and send the V5 to DVLA informing them what you have done.

A word of warning. If you keep the V5 to support age related application later you must declare Sorn. More importantly watch out for the letter that they will send you. I declared Sorn and registered as new owner of my donor at the same time. I got new log book but never got the sorn reply. After a year i was puzzled why i didnt get a Sorn reminder. After making some enquiries i was told the car was never declared Sorn and was on an untaxed register. Ive been lucky not to have got into trouble.

Scrap whats left of the Sierra and return the V5 to DVLA.
