*cough* SORN problems anyone?? *cough*

Allegedly just had an interesting supposed conversation with some officials concerning a theoretical situtation...

My brother's, uncle's, pet monkey's mum had a problem with the SORN on their donor, some nitwit forgot to renew. D'oh. Probably something to do with being a monkey's mother.

The upshot of this purely hypothetical conversation is that as long as my brother's, uncle's, pet monkey's mother lets them know in writing that they did submit the SORN on some specified date, the DVLA will, for now, accept her word for it. Allegedly. But only for now, maybe not in the future.

Don't know if this may help anyone else's simian relatives??

Yes - i have had an almost problem. I got donor last June ish. The guy i got it off had it offroad for few years, never declared it. He was keen for me to take it off his hands, i got it for free with log book on the understanding it was transferred immediately. This I did and also declared it Sorn in the same envelope.

I thought job was done. Got new logbook. I neglected to realise that i didnt get SORN confirmation. June 2005 came and gone - no reminder. I contacted DVLA September and they warned me that it was on an untaxed register and to sort it quickly and that i could face a fine etc etc. I went on line, sorted it out there and then, got confirmation and since nothing else has been mentioned.

Upshot is if you declare sorn - MAKE SURE YOU GET AND KEEP CONFIRMATION.

Why will they only take the pet monkeys mothers word for it????

It's also worth making sure when you sell a donor or any other car on that you add the time of day on the paperwork just to make sure there are no insurance 'issues'

How do you mean Kissy? I knwo the logbook is signed and dated by both parties. Where would you put the time? (i guess next to signature).

This is also the case for speeding issues. I know of someone who sold their car one morning and the buyer went through 3 speeding cameras that same afternoon! Guess who got the speeding tickets and had a difficult job of proving that he was not driving!
