ok so Im building, at the mo but want to get rid of my donor car what parts do I fill in on the log book..
then can I have the number plate of the sierra??

from what I have read and peeps will correct me if I am wrong, since you a building a car with a new chasis, you will not get the registration of the
original vehicle but an age related plate if you can prove you used 2 major componetns from the donor - engine+gearbox usaully.
If the plate is pre '72, you would not qualify for road tax exemption.
I have heard from 2 people that it is possible to retain original reg. + tax free status but they have not said how to achieve this; can't see
how it is possible myself.
As 02GF74 said you will get a age related plate if you can prove you have used the original parts, i am hoping to do this with my donor.
I have asked fellow kit car builders who have done this and they recommend that you remove everything of the car that represents the identification so
no one else can obtain the V5 for that car, and if all goes well you will get a age related plate.

Me personally Ive got rid of the chassis by asking a local scrappie to collect and dispose but I havent registered it with DVLA as scrapped only SORN.
This is so that I still have the V5 for talking with the DVLA/SVA men to prove ownership of previous donor/engine number and therefore age of
vehicle.
I havent heard of anybody getting the exact donor plate at registration of kitcar but you should get a plate of the same age as the donor, i.e. if you
donor was A123 BCD that will be scrapped or put back into the melting pot by DVLA and they will issue your vehicle with A321 XXX
Ive only took the diff and driveshafts off can be bothered to do anything else!
so is it a Q plate then

1. Donor stripped and scrapped.
2. Donor V5 retained, declared SORN.
3. Kit built up (new chassis).
4. DVLA came to house to inspect, approved age related plate.
i was able to prove new chassis and use of major donor parts. They apparently will avoid issuing Q if they can.
Just take off the bits you want, whether it be one, two, or twenty. get rid of the rest, keep the v5(making sure its sorn). Then present the v5 along
with all your receipts,your sva certificate and your cheque, and you will get an age related plate(not the reg off the v5 which you have submitted).
simple!!

Dont be concerned about new insurance laws just yet. As with most things the scaremongers have been spreading half truths on this forum again or at
the very least adding 1 + 1 and getting 66.987!!!
Declaring SORN means you dont have to get road tax. I would strongly suspect this also means you wont need insurance. The cars will be off the road
ffs. Even the blairsquad are not that stupid.
The most important thing is declaring the donor as SORN and keeping the letter from DVLA. As long as you can prove new chassis and you used major bits
off the donor you will get age related. My engine wasnt from donor but they simply said the paperwork wasnt updated following engine swap - it was a
Sierra engine and nothing was questioned. V5 proves as receipt for engine etc as well - you dont need a seperate reciept as a lot of people will tell
you.
Dont worry. Just do it.
Oh, and just to get another point in- no MOT for 3 years, dont get caught out.

this is a mac#1 pet subject as Mark has been involved with clarifying various aspects of registeringand mot requirements
my own experience is remove parts from car keep log book and declare sorn,, scrap rest of car,present docs,sva cert and cheque to dvla office and go
home with age related plate ps its a bec with only diff,shafts and hubs from doner so really should have been a Q-reg still not complaining

I have done the same but am now worried that I may fall foul of the new insurance laws. According to the new law it is illegal to own a vehicle that is uninsured weather it is on the road or not.... I'm hoping that declaring it SORN will allow me to not insure it but the I haven't been able to clarify this yet... could trip up a lot of people methinks
